Nature Photography by Lee Burdick

Lee Burdick is an Artist from Kalamazoo Michigan who has been exploring nature since she was old enough to walk.  She has always been drawn to and very connected with the earth.  She took a Photography class in 1990 at KVCC and immediately got hooked with this form of expression.  The camera lens became a way to capture the beauty she sees in the natural world. She believes that simplicity, like we find in nature, is beautiful and holds much susbtance. She believes there is a natural flow and everything works in unison
to maintain the cycle of life.

She still uses the first camera she ever bought in 1990, a used Canon SLR with two lenses. She uses very little equipment and does not manipulate what she sees. She feels this more effectively and respectfully honors the earth and it's gifts. She feels very humbled
to be a curious witness of nature and let's herself be naturally drawn to the scenes around her. With her work she hopes to capture and convey a small piece of the beauty she sees in the earth.

Lee was an Artist and Volunteer for five years for Diane's Way Expressive Arts Program
at Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Kalamazoo.  She helped design Memory Gardens for Hospice patients and their families and she taught art classes at The Expressive Arts Grief Camp for two years at Pretty Lake Adventure Centre.  Lee continues to take Art classes in Kalamazoo and she is currently starting her second line of cards with Photo transfers from her nature photography.

Philosophy on Art

“Life is about learning for me, and my art resembles that.  I try new things, some times they work…and when they don’t, I learn even more.
